FRIDAY 24TH MAY 2019

Sydney 3.00 v Collingwood 1.39

TIP - Margin Collingwood 25+ @ 2.20

Sydney made it back to back wins for the first time this season last weekend when they edged out North Melbourne 77-72 at Blundstone Arena, trailing after the first term the Swans kicked 7.2 in the second term and controlled the game from there on in although they did fade in the last term to give the Roo's a sniff!

That win sees Sydney move up to 14th on the ladder and with a little momentum behind them coming into this they will be hoping that they can continue their solid recent form and upset high flying Collingwood at the SCG

Collingwood notched up another victory last weekend their sixth on the spin when they downed St Kilda 112-71 at the MCG, the game was in the balance after three quarters but a blistering last term saw the Pies kick 6.6 to record a convincing win.

Adam Treloar starred for the Pies finishing with 38 disposals while Brody Mihocek finished the game with figures of 4.1, more of the same from Collingwood should see them extend their run once more.

Verdict - Collingwood are playing some really good footy at the moment and it will take a huge effort to stop them, Pies win for me!

SATURDAY 25TH MAY 2019

Hawthorn 1.78 v Port Adelaide 2.05

TIP Margin Hawthorn 1-24 @ 3.20

The Hawks after their good result against GWS in round 8 had another tough assignment last weekend up against Richmond at the MCG, the game was pretty evenly poised until midway through the third term when the Tigers seemed to find another gear eventually winning the game comfortably 95-59.

Hawthorn have shown in patches that they can match it with the best teams this season but they are struggling to put four solid quarters together week in week out, home ground advantage here may well be the key for them.

Port got back to winning ways last weekend after losing two on the bounce overcoming the Suns at the Adelaide Oval 89-51, in a game that should have been easy pickings the Power struggled to build any real momentum until midway through the third term.

With the lead changing hands several times throughout the first half the Power managed to contain the Suns in the second half keeping them to 1.2 in the final two terms while kicking 7.8 themselves to come away with a much needed victory.

Verdict - Should be a close one this with both teams looking to put pressure on the top 8, slight preference is for the Hawks who have a solid record over in Tasmania.

Western Bulldogs 1.65 v North Melbourne 2.25

TIP Margin Western Bulldogs 1-39 @ 2.15 - BEST BET

After two successive wins the Bulldogs had dragged themselves back into contention for honours this season but they took a step backwards last weekend when they were soundly beaten by the Cats 133-89 and as a result they drop down a couple of spots in the process to 12th.

The saving grace for the Doggies was the fact that several key teams above them also lost their fixtures too so they still find themselves only four points outside the top eight, must win game this one against a struggling team.

North Melbourne's poor season continued last weekend when they narrowly defeated by they Swans at the 77-72, they would have been happy at the way they finished the game kicking the last four goals but their latter efforts fell just short.

Only two wins from their first nine games this season has left them in real trouble, they sit one off the bottom in 17th place and already 12 points outside of the top eight you would think that their season is all but over already.

Verdict - Not a game to put your house on but the Doggies are decent odds to get back to winning ways.

Adelaide 1.65 v West Coast 2.25

TIP Margin Adelaide 25+ @ 3.10

Adelaide were the biggest losers last weekend dropping four places down the ladder to 7th after narrowly going down to the Lions 93-92 at the Gabba, four late goals had the Crows thinking of an unlikely win after trailing for the majority of the match but they couldn't find a late winner much to their dismay.

They will know another loss here will put them right back into a cauldron of teams chasing the top four, they are at home this weekend and that in itself may give them the boost that they will need to come out on top.

West Coast made it three wins on the spin last weekend defeating the Demons 85-69 at Optus Stadium but they made heavy weather of it having to come from behind late to seal the victory.

The Eagles trailed by twelve going into the last quarter but dug deep to record a come from behind win much to the joy of their home support, they will need to be at their best throughout here if they are to keep tabs with the Crows.

Verdict - I think the Crows will bounce back this weekend after not showing their best last week on the road, home advantage a big plus here.

Gold Coast 5.50 v Geelong 1.15

TIP Margin Geelong 25+ @ 1.57

Another dismal performance from the Gold Coast last weekend saw them lose their fifth game on the bounce and once again they are in free fall down to 16th on the ladder, up against Port Adelaide the Suns put in a good shift up until midway through the third term then not fore the first time they seemed to fall asleep.

The game eventually finished 89-51 after being tied with lust over a quarter left to play, same old Suns you may well say, they need to find a win anyway possible.

Geelong maintained top spot on the ladder last weekend easily brushing aside the Doggies 133-89, Tom Hawkins starred for the Cats kicking 4.0 with Gary Rohan and Mitch Duncan chipping in with three goals each.

Five wins on the bounce now for Geelong and they are starting to look like the team to beat this season, should be another comfortable victory here if they put the same effort in.

Verdict - I can only see one winner here, Geelong should control the game from the off and win comfortably but I don't think it will be a landslide win but comfortable non the less!

Richmond 1.43 v Essendon 2.85

TIP Margin Essendon 1-24 @ 4.50

Richmond recorded their fourth win in five games last weekend when they made light work of the Hawks at the MCG running out comfortable 95-59 winners, the Tigers took control of the match late in the first term and steadily built their advantage throughout the remainder of the game.

That win sees them climb up to 5th on the ladder but only due to an inferior percentage than two teams above them who also reside on 24 points, they face a stern test this weekend butt they are quite capable if putting their best foot forward.

Essendon after three defeats got back to winning ways last weekend when they narrowly defeat the Dockers 60-53 at Marvel Stadium, it certainly wasn't one of their better efforts but they will take the points none the same and move onto this weeks tasks feeling positive.

The Bombers are back up to 10th on the ladder and still in the mix, they will need to be at their very best if they are to get anything out of this game but they have more on the line than the Tigers so an upset may well be on the cards.

Verdict - At decent odds I am going to take a punt on the Bombers to edge a tight one.

SUNDAY 26TH MAY 2019

Melbourne 2.55 v GWS 1.52 - BEST BET

TIP Margin GWS 25+ @ 2.55

After two straight wins the Demons suffered another setback this season last weekend losing 85-69 against the Eagles at Optus Stadium, Melbourne took a 12 point lead into the final term but they couldn't maintain their intensity levels in the last stanza and conceded 6.1 which put pay to any chance of them coming away with a much needed victory.

They are still in touch with the top 8 but only just and they will have to turn things around quickly if they are to have any chance of mounting a challenge late in the season.

GWS after going down to Hawthorn in round 8 bounced back in style last weekend crushing Carlton 138-45, Jeremy Finlayson starred for the Ginats kicking 5.1 while Lachie Whitfield, Brett Deledio and Harry Himmelberg all pitched in kicking three goals apiece.

The Giants are now up to third and although they have put in a few poor efforts this season they look a team that when on song they are a force to be reckoned with, more of the same will be good enough here.

Verdict - I expect another comfortable victory for the Giants but it will not be the cakewalk that they had last week.

St Kilda 1.43 v Carlton 2.85

TIP Margin St Kilda 25+ @ 2.35

St Kilda have now lost four on the bounce after going down last weekend against Collingwood 112-71, they had every chance of upsetting the Pies at three quarter time trailing by only five but they ran out of puff in the final term not for the first time this season.

It might have been a different story for the Saints had they had their kicking boots on, eleven behinds for the game tells it's own story, if you don't take your chances at the right time your'e always going to struggle especially against a team as good as Collingwood.

Carlton went from bad to woeful last weekend going down to the Giants 138-45 and to be honest the less said about their performance the better.

Only one win this season see them at the bottom of the ladder and it would take a herculean style miracle for them to figure this season now, the Blues fans will be looking for chances not only within the squad but also within the managerial set up too very soon.

Verdict - Both teams struggling but the Saints should have too much for Carlton in this one.

Fremantle 1.75 v Brisbane 2.05

TIP Margin Lions 25+ @ 4.65

Fremantle slip out of the top eight after losing their third consecutive game last weekend this time going down 60-53 against the Bombers at Marvel Stadium, certainly not a game for the purists that one.

The Dockers need to find their early season form and quickly if they are to keep pace with the teams above them and get back into the top eight, home advantage is a huge plus here but they are up against a decent team coming here off a decent result.

Brisbane after losing to the Doggies in round eight bounced back last weekend against the Crows narrowly taking the four points in a thrilling 93-92 victory, they looked to have the game sewn up midway through the last quarter but four late goals from Adelaide made the last few minutes never for the home supporters.

That win moves them back into the top four and if they are to put up a realistic challenge this season have to winning marginal games of this type, they are good enough at their best and are full of confidence after last weeks antics.

Verdict - I think the Lions are decent odds to win this and they may well win with something to spare if they get their heads in front early!
