Essendon 1.20 v St Kilda 4.60

TIP - Margin Essendon 25+ @ 1.63

A crippling loss against the Hawks last week for the Bombers has pretty much ended their season, they will need to win their remaining three games and hope that other results go their way in several key fixtures.

The game finished 107-103 in the Hawks favour after the Bombers held the lead several times comfortably during the game, they charged home at the end of the final term but fell just short.

Another loss last week for the Saints but with the three teams below them on the ladder also losing they remain in 15th with only four wins and a draw to their credit in 2018.

The game against the Western Bulldogs started well with the Saints bossing the first quarter but things soon unravelled midway through the second term as the Bulldogs found their stride eventually running out comfortable 103-68 winners.

Verdict - All or nothing for the Bombers they have to win and cross their fingers elsewhere, they should manage their part but what happens elsewhere will seal their fate!!

Hawthorn 2.15 v Geelong 1.71

TIP Margin Hawthorn 1-24 @ 4.30

Four wins out of the last five games has seen the Hawks rise to 5th on the ladder but with so many teams around them they can ill afford a slip up over the coming weeks if they are to finish in the top eight.

Last weeks game against the Bombers ended up being a nail biter with the lead changing hands several times before the Hawks established a match winning advantage early in the final term, the Bombers scored a couple late but the Hawks held on for a 107-103 victory.

Geelong lost last weeks clash against the Tigers 85-82 which sees them slip down to 9th on the ladder and in real danger of missing out on finals football this season.

The game was tight until a Tigers burst in the third term saw them build a match winning advantage, the Cats pulled it back in the final term but fell just short of a dramatic win.

Verdict - Should be a cracker with both teams capable of the win, slight preference is for the Hawks being the home team.

Gold Coast 13.00 v Richmond 1.03

TIP Margin Richmond 1-39 @ 4.15

Another heavy loss for the Suns last week this time at the hands of the Demons, the game finished 143-47 and only for some poor Melbourne kicking in front of goal this could have been a 200+ score.

After such a great start to the season winning their opening two games the Suns have only managed to win two from their last seventeen fixtures which sums up another disappointing effort in 2018.

The Tigers crept over the line last week against the Cats winning their vital clash by three points 85-82, the win keeps them at the top of the ladder four points ahead of the Eagles.

Richmond will finish in the top four this season the only question is can they keep hold of top spot, should be another win here to keep their momentum going.

Verdict - Surely only one winner here, the Tigers are too good for this lot but the Suns at home may well keep the margin down to a respectable one.

Port Adelaide 1.46 v West Coast 2.75 - BEST BET

TIP Margin West Coast 1-39 @

Port suffered their third loss in five games last week when they went down 96-93 against the Crows after conceding two late goals, the game could have been put to be earlier by the Crows but poor goal kicking kept the Power in the game.

That loss sees the Power slip down to 7th on the ladder and they can ill afford another loss here with two teams only four points behind them in the race for the top eight.

West Coast kept the pressure on the Tigers at the top of the ladder with last weeks win against the Dockers, the Eagles always had the game under control and ran out easy 142-84 winners.

The Eagles find themselves eight points clear of 5th place so another win will see them guaranteed a top four birth and possibly a top two spot on the ladder but this is a tough ask on the road.

Verdict - With the Power out of touch of late it may well be prudent to stick with the Eagles at a decent price, they are playing well and winning but it could go either way.

Collingwood 1.29 v Brisbane 3.65

TIP Margin Collingwood 25+ @ 1.92

Collingwood suffered their third loss in five games last week going down in a close affair against the Swans, the game finished 73-71 after the Pies fought back to take the lead in the final term but a late Swans goal undid all their good work.

The loss sees them slip down to 6th on the ladder in the pile of teams sat on 48 points so a win here is vital for them and their finals hopes.

The Lions pushed North Melbourne all the way last week but they fell just short losing the game 107-104 after coming back in the last term, they had a chance to win it at the death only for Rayner to push his set shot wide in the dying seconds from only 30m out.

Brisbane have shown enough in recent weeks to suggest that they can win this but it will take their best effort and being on the road will not help their cause.

Verdict - Should be a home win for the Pies but the Lions may well push them throughout the game.

GWS 1.46 v Adelaide 2.75

TIP Margin GWS 1-24 @ 4.50 - BEST BET

Four wins on the bounce now for the Giants after last weeks impressive 151-46 victory over Carlton, the game was never in doubt from the first whistle as the Giants took charge early and extended their lead at will.

The Giants are now up to third on the ladder but with five teams only two points adrift they will need to keep winning if they are to stay in the top four.

Another win for the Crows last week made it three from their last five games and kept their slim finals hopes alive but nothing short of three wins from their last three games will be good enough and even then they will have to rely on other teams doing them a favour.

The local derby last week lived up to the hype with the game poised to go either way right until the final whistle, a late surge from the Crows got them over the line with the game finishing 96-93

Verdict - Win or bust for the Crows here and they could spring an upset but GWS are playing some good stuff at the moment and I expect them to solidify their top four credentials with a win here.

Sunday 12th August 2018

North Melbourne 1.29 v Western Bulldogs 3.65

TIP Margin North Melbourne 1-39 @ 2.05

Another team that kept their finals hopes alive with a win last week was the Kangaroo's but it was no picnic as they scrambled over the line against the Lions 107-104 and should have probably lost the game late on but a missed set shot in the dying seconds kept their finals hopes alive.

A win here is a must and they will need to win well to improve their percentage as they are currently behind in that department in regards the teams above them.

The Western Bulldogs claimed their 6th win of the season last week after defeating St Kilda 103-68, a slow start by the Bulldogs had them trailing by 21 points at quarter time but once they found their stride they were all over the Saints like a cheap shirt.

Playing for pride for the rest of the season are the Bulldogs, they can move up one spot on the ladder to 13th but it will be little consolation and the season must go down as a failed effort in 2018.

Verdict - Expect North win this one and put pressure on the teams above them, the Doggies could spring a surprise if they play like they did in the final three terms of last weeks game.

Melbourne 1.38 v Sydney 3.10

TIP Margin Melbourne 1-39 @ 1.95

Melbourne maintained their solid recent form last week winning with ease 143-47 against the Suns making it four wins from their last five games and moving them into the top four in the process.

While they sit 4th on the ladder they are no certainties to stay their with so many teams sat on 48 points but they should have done enough for finals football due to their impressive % mark which is only bettered by leaders Richmond.

A much needed victory last week for the Swans sees them move back into the top eight at the hands of the Cats who drop to 9th after losing their match against the Tigers.

Last weeks game against the Pies was a real humdinger with the Swans coming out on top 73-71 to keep their season alive but they will need to keep winning if they are to stay in the top eight with several teams below them still capable of knocking them down a place or two.

Verdict - It would take the Sydney of seasons past to stop the Demons here who are in superb form, a similar effort to last week will see them home comfortably.

Fremantle 1.25 v Carlton 4.00

TIP Margin Fremantle 1-39 @ 2.05

Another loss for the Dockers last week this time at the hands of the Eagles on the road 142-84, never in the game after the first term as the Eagles kicked 21-16 during the game.

Fremantle sit 13th on the ladder with seven wins to their name, another poor effort for the Dockers in 2018 but a few wins in their remaining games may well give the fans some hope for next year.

Another walloping last week for the Blues going down 151-46 at home against the Giants condemning them to their 17th loss of the season.

Carlton unless they can win their remaining three games will finish with the wooden spoon this season and since they have only won two games all season they have as much chance of winning their last three matches as Australia have in winning the Ice hockey Olympic gold medal.

Verdict - I don't think it will be a game that will be remembered but the Dockers look to have too much for the Blues here.
