As always a new season produces early shocks and in round 2 we had them in spades, the Swans were outclassed by the Power, the Suns turned over Carlton, North Melbourne brushed aside the Saints and the Dockers easily dispatched the Bombers. Last Weeks AFL Tips - Betting Man
Well after a solid round 1 things were a little tougher in round 2 and like most tipsters we fell a bit short, although the Hawks did us a favour in the last.
Both best bets bombed out and only one out of four in the multi proved what a tough round it was for the favourites..

FRIDAY 6TH APRIL 2018
Carlton 2.72 v Collingwood 1.46
TIP - Margin Carlton 1-24 @ 4.00
Carlton after a solid display in round 1 against Richmond were up against the Suns in round 2 a game that on paper should have resulted in four points but the Blues were not the same team and the Suns took full advantage to come away with a 101-67 victory.
The Blues cannot afford to lose games of that nature especially at home if they are to challenge the top eight this season and after last weeks performance the top eight come the business end of the year looks a long way away, just not good enough.
Collingwood suffered their second straight defeat in their 2018 campaign but they will take a lot of positives from the game against the Giants after only going down by 16 points.
The game was in the balance throughout and with the Pies 12 points to the good in the fourth quarter things looked promising only for the Giants to kick four of the last five goals to sneak home. Collingwood played a solid game against one of the best but can they put a similar effort in in round 3?
Verdict - Both teams have shown promise this year but a lack of consistency may well be both these teams undoing this year, should be a close game and I am going to have a stab at Carlton and a stab in the dark is pretty much what it is as the game is up for grabs for both teams.
SATURDAY 7TH APRIL 2018
Port Adelaide 1.06 v Brisbane 9.20
TIP - Margin Port Adelaide 25+ @ 1.25
Port Adelaide come into this game unbeaten after easy dispatching the Dockers in round 1 and then surprisingly turning over the Swans away in round 2 with some ease I might add 94-71 after an impressive second half performance.
The Power clawed back an early deficit after a slow start and by three quarter time there looked only one winner as Port impressed across the park as they battled hard in all areas. Is this a sign of things to come this season for the Power or are they going to once again show promise and fade??
Brisbane have lost both their games in 2018 but have shown signs that they have improved on last years efforts and we may well see them rise from the ashes soon, maybe not this season but it won't be long before this young team starts to turn things around.
Usually the Lions compete until half time then fall away but last week they looked dead and buried by half time only to score seven unanswered goals to get them back in the game during the third and fourth quarters. Unfortunately for the Lions they could not sustain that effort and the Demons took the four points 100-74.
Verdict - Port have shown enough this season already to suggest they are top four material and should put more points on the board than the Lions, big win for the Power here.
Melbourne 1.29 v North Melbourne 3.66
TIP - Margin Melbourne 25+ @ 1.91
After pushing the Cats all the way in round 1 the Demons made hard work of their game against the Lions last week but they did come away with the points winning 100-74.
Melbourne looked like they were going to win by a landslide but conceded seven unanswered goals to let the Lions back in the game only for them to regroup late in the last quarter and seal the victory.
North Melbourne claimed their first win of the season last week easily dispatching the Saints 95-43 thanks to an impressive second half performance by the whole team.
After their grueling round 1 encounter up in Cairns in the wet most pundits expected North to have tired legs and fall away in the second half in this but credit where credit is due the team dug deep and wanted the win more than their rivals, positive signs for a team that were very poor last year.
Verdict - A slight blip during last weeks game but no damage done for the Demons and I think they have shown enough this season to suggest they can win this one.
Gold Coast 2.72 v Fremantle 1.46
TIP - Margin Fremantle 25+ @ 2.25
The Suns made it back to back wins in round 2 when they travelled down to Victoria and beat Carlton convincingly 101-67 thanks to an 8.1 haul from their superstar forward Tom Lynch.
The Suns have shown improved form this season the million dollar question is can they maintain their intensity!! Games like this will show us if they are to have a chance of a finals birth come the end of the season, home game against a team that has struggled in recent years, you have to take advantage of this type of game.
The Dockers got a good hammering in round one and you would of expected them to be on the end of another against the Bombers last week but Fremantle are always a different proposition at home and they surprised the Bombers and took the points with an 106-90 victory.
Four goals from Matt Taberner helped them on their way to an impressive win and some much needed confidence, the question is can they reproduce the same form on the road?
Verdict - If the Dockers reproduce last weeks effort they should win and win well but since they are on the road don't count the unbeaten Suns out at decent odds.
St Kilda 4.10 v Adelaide 1.24
TIP - Margin Adelaide 25+ @ 1.91
After their opening round victory last weeks game against the Kangaroo's was a perfect opportunity to make it two from two but the young Saints team looked a little lost as the game went on and eventually were soundly beaten 95-43
You would have expected the Saints to kick on after a close first half due to the Kangaroo's stamina issues after their wet game in round 1 but it was the Saints who looked tired throughout the second half and this early in the season that does not bode well for them.
Adelaide put round 1's loss behind them last week when they made a statement beating the Tigers 118-82 showing the rest of the teams that they are to be feared once again this season.
The win will not take away the pain of losing the grand final last year but it will however give the Crows the confidence boost needed after last years heartache.
Verdict - The Crows are a short price and that is fully warranted and they should dispatch the Saints with something to spare.
Sydney 1.66 v GWS Giants 2.24
TIP - Margin GWS Giants 1-24 @ 3.60
After beating the Eagles away in round 1 the Swans looked set to have another stellar campaign and round 2's match against Port at home should have read the Swans two from two but it was the Power who took the four points 94-71 after the Swans fell away in the second half.
It will be interesting to see over the next few weeks is the Power maintain that level of performance because we are still unsure it was the Swans who folded or the Power who shone.
The Giants made it back to back victories last week when they beat the Pies but it was not the walkover that most expected with the game eventually finishing 95-79.
Only a late surge from the Giants got them over the line after trailing by 12 midway through the last term although on a positive note this shows that the team is ready to fight for victories and not just fade away.
Verdict - I think this will be tight and either team can win but the Giants are unbeaten and the Swans fell away pretty tamely last week so preference is for them.
SUNDAY 8TH APRIL 2018
Richmond 1.52 v Hawthorn 2.55
TIP - Margin Hawthorn 1-24 @ 3.75
The Tigers went to Adelaide hoping to once again dominate the Crows but the Tigers were on the receiving end this time in round 2 as they fell to the Crows 118-82.
It was a reverse of the grand final as this time the Crows pushed on in the second half after a tight first half but if you are a Tigers fan I know which game I would want to win and it certainly wasn't this one!!
Two from two now for the Hawks after they scraped past the Cats after almost blowing a sizable lead in the last quarter by a point 118-117.
Solid start to the season for Hawthorn and they will come into this with high hopes of extending their unbeaten run in 2018.
Verdict - The Hawks look slight overs in this so preference is for them in what should be a tight affair, always follow the value!!
Western Bulldogs 2.90 v Essendon 1.42 - BEST BET
TIP - Margin Essendon 25+ @ 2.25 - BEST BET
Two games and two big losses for the Bulldogs now after they were beaten 121-70 at home against the Eagles last week and if that is a sign of things to come it is going to be a long long season for Bulldogs fans.
I am trying to come up with some, any positives from the opening two games but to be honest I am really struggling, maybe they were just bad hair days!!
The Bombers went into round 2 full of confidence after their come back win against the Crows in round 1 but they were soon brought back down to earth in WA by Fremantle with the Dockers taking the game 106-90
I think that the Bombers will still be in a positive frame of mind after their first two games and if they can iron out a few little areas then they will be big players this season.
Verdict - It is one of those games that there can be only one winner and they should win well, Essendon going on the first two rounds should win comfortably.
West Coast 2.12 v Geelong 1.73
TIP - Margin West Coast 1-24 @ 3.60
Not too sure what to make of the Eagles yet this year after winning one and losing one in their opening two games. Round 1 saw them give the Swans a run for their money and round 2 saw them dismantle a sorry looking Bulldogs outfit so the jury is still out!
We know one thing though and that is that nine times out of ten the Eagles are a better team at home and if they can reproduce their effort against the Swans they will give the Cats a run for their money here.
Geelong fought hard last week but went down by a point 118-117 against the Hawks after almost staging a late comeback in the final term.
Geelong will take a few positive from the game as they upped their level of performance from their round 1 game against the Demons and they showed grit and a desire to win when falling behind.
Verdict - The Eagles at home are always tough and they look slight overs to take the victory against a Cats team that are still warming up this season.
