Hawthorn 1.91 v Sydney 1.91

TIP - Margin Hawthorn 1-24 @ 3.20

Hawthorn made it three from four when beating Essendon last week 90-67 but they had to work for their win in the second half after going in at half time seven points down.

The third quarter was the telling point as the Hawks kicked 6.3 while keeping the Bombers to only one behind and that as they say was that.

Sydney suffered a surprising 68-66 loss at home to the Kangaroos last week and slip down to 8th on the ladder with three teams below them also on 16 points.

The game was close throughout but the Swans gave up a ten point lead in the final term as North powered home, with Buddy Franklin missing they looked a little lost as to who to go too in the final term to close out the game.

Verdict - Should be a real humdinger this one with both teams capable of winning but slight preference is for Hawks who come into this with the better recent form.

GWS Giants 1.60 v West Coast 2.35

TIP Margin GWS Giants 1-24 @ 3.20

GWS suffered their second loss of the season last weeks when the Cats blew them off the park 93-32 in a one sided affair at the GMHBA Stadium.

That loss sees the Giants drop from third on the ladder to fifth with only two wins from their last five outings and they can ill afford to slip up this week.

West Coast have now won their last six matches after making light work of Port Adelaide at home last week, the Eagles took control early and by half time the game was in the bag.

The win keeps the Eagles in second on 24 points the same number as the Tigers, it will be games like this that will determine if the Eagles can push for top spot come the end of the regular season.

Verdict - GWS with home advantage should put their best foot forward but this one could go either way, GWS by a whisker for me.

Carlton 3.70 v Essendon 1.28

TIP Margin Essendon 1.24 @ 3.30

Seven games played, seven losses now for Carlton after losing comprehensively last week away against the Crows, the game finished 125-70 and as the scoreline suggests the Blues were never in the contest.

Bottom of the ladder, big losses week in week out Carlton are in big trouble, the question is not how many games can they win this season it's more can they win a game this season.

The Bombers looked a chance at half time taking a slender lead into the half time break against the Hawks last week but once again they looked like a bunch of schoolboys in the second half as the Hawks ripped them apart.

The game eventually finished 90-67 in the Hawks favour and a side that was touted as being a live chance this season are now looking like also ran's with only two wins from seven games.

Verdict - Both teams have more holes in their back line than a tramps vest but at least the Bombers have shown some talent this season so preference is for them.

Gold Coast 3.50 v Melbourne 1.31

TIP Margin Melbourne 25+ @ 2.10

The Suns lost their clash with the Bulldogs last week on the road 81-72 after leading at half time and they will feel it was one that got away.

They can be proud of their performance in defeat and it may well give them a little confidence especially now that they are back in Queensland.

Melbourne made it back to back wins last week when they beat St Kilda 106-67 in a game that they always dominated and never looked like loosing after taking a 28 point lead into half time.

The Demons now sit on 16 points just outside the top eight but another win here could propel them into the top eight if not the top six.

Verdict - Has to be the Demons for the win but it may not be a walkover if the Suns reproduce last weeks effort once again.

Port Adelaide 2.45 v Adelaide 1.56 - BEST BET

TIP Margin Adelaide 25+ @ 2.63

After their impressive start to the season Port now find themselves out of the top eight on the ladder after losing three of their last four games.

Last weeks encounter saw them travel to WA and face the Eagles and it was quickly apparent that they were in for a long day. The game eventually finished 102-60 and the Eagles had pretty much wrapped things up by half time.

Adelaide move to third on the ladder after last weeks comprehensive victory over Carlton, the game was all but over at half time and it was a case of how many in the second half for the Crows.

Adelaide are starting to look like the same team that dominated last year's regular season which doesn't bode well for the other teams in the competition, although as we found out last year it's not a good idea to peak too early.

Verdict - Port just like last season are starting to look fragile while the Crows go from strength to strength, expect the Crows to dominate from the off once again.

Western Bulldogs 1.38 v Brisbane 3.05

TIP Margin Western Bulldogs 25+ @ 2.20 - BEST BET

Two wins on the spin for the Bulldogs after last weeks gritty win against the Suns after coming from behind at half time. The game finished 81-72 and while it wasn't pretty the Bulldogs will take the points none the less.

The Bulldogs are now up to 14th on the ladder only one win outside the top eight so this is a must win if they are to have a chance of finals footy this year.

Brisbane are still without a win this season after losing once again last week, this time it was Collingwood who lowered their colours but only just 121-114.

The Lions were behind for the majority of the game but three quick goals midway through the final term gave them a chance of victory only for the Pies to score and hang on.

Verdict - Better from the Lions last week but they are on the road this week and I expect the Bulldogs to make it three on the spin.

Fremantle 1.25 v St Kilda 4.00

TIP Margin Fremantle 1-24 @ 5.50

Fremantle were made to look second rate last week when Richmond tore them apart eventually taking the win 110-33, three losses from four games now for the Dockers sees them fall to 12th on the ladder.

If Fremantle have any chance of making the top eight this season then they have to win games of this nature and win them well to improve their percentage.

St Kilda were no match for the Demons last week going down 106-67 in a one sided affair, the game was all but over at half time with the Saints trailing by 28 points.

With St Kilda sitting on a measly six points after seven games it is highly unlikely that they will challenge the top eight this season but they will still want a few more wins on the board and this is an opportunity for them.

Verdict - Two teams trying to find a bit of form, the Dockers have shown enough this year to suggest they can take the points here especially on home turf.

North Melbourne 4.10 v Richmond 1.24

TIP Margin Richmond 1-24 @ 3.50

North Melbourne continued their good form last week coming from behind to beat the Swans on the road 68-66 in a thriller, three from their last four now for the Kangaroos sees them climb to 7th on the ladder.

Things will be a little harder this week when the Tigers come to visit and with GWS next week North will need to be on top form to maintain their good run of late.

Richmond walked over the Dockers last week to maintain their lead at the top of the ladder with a convincing 110-33 victory.

The Tigers are looking the real deal this season after winning the flag last year and it will take a decent effort to beat them in the vein of form they are in at the moment.

Verdict - I expect the Tigers to win this one but I think the Kangaroos will give them a stern test throughout.

Collingwood 2.40 v Geelong 1.57

TIP Margin Geelong 1-24 @ 3.20

Collingwood were made to work a little harder than they would have expected last week against the Lions but they got the job done in the end and that's all that matters.

The game finished 121-114 which means the Pies climb to 9th on the ladder level on points with three teams above them, this will be tougher after a few games against struggler's so they will need to be at their very best this week.

Geelong bounced back from their loss against the Swans in round 6 by defeating GWS 93-32 in what was their best performance of the season for sure.

The Cats will be confident that they can continue their recent good form here and take another victory to stretch their recent run to four wins from their last five.

Verdict - If the Cats are in the same mood as last week  their is only one winner here and they will win well too.
