FRIDAY 18TH MAY 2018
Adelaide 1.15 v Western Bulldogs 5.50
TIP - Margin Adelaide 25+ @ 1.50
Adelaide slip to fourth on the ladder after their narrow defeat last week against Port 95-90 in a real ding dong affair at the Adelaide oval.
The Crows looked to have the advantage until Port rallied late on to secure the points and condemning the Crows to their third loss of the season.
The Bulldogs made it three on the spin last week when they beat the Lions but they were made to work hard for the points eventually coming out on top 107.93.
With that win the Bulldogs find themselves only one win outside the top eight and they can find a way to win here they will be right back in the mix.
Verdict - I would expect the Crows to bounce back from last weeks loss here and win comfortably on home soil.
SATURDAY 19TH MAY 2018
North Melbourne 1.82 v GWS Giants 2.00
TIP - Margin GWS Giants 25+ @ 4.15 - BEST BET
North gave the Tigers a real run for their money last week but fell just short losing the match 82-72 after a late surge from Richmond.
Two losses from three games sees the Kangaroos slip down to 10th on the ladder but they are only one win away from the pack stuck on 20 points.
GWS have now lost their last two games and won only one in their last four after last weeks 86-61 loss at home to the Eagles.
They find themselves outside the top 8 for the first time this season and will want to steady the ship with a convincing win here.
Verdict - GWS have been under par in recent weeks but on song they can destroy anyone, expect a better showing here.
Gold Coast 6.50 v Port Adelaide 1.12
TIP - Margin Port Adelaide 25+ @ 1.40
The wheels have really come off for the Gold Coast as they suffered another loss last week against the Demons making it four losses from their last five outings.
The Suns started well enough but midway through the second term the Demons changed gears and the Suns could not match them in any area and it showed on the scoreboard with the game finishing 146-77.
Port secured a valuable four points against local rivals the Crows last week in a thrilling affair, the game eventually finished 95-90 after some last minute heroics by Port.
That win moves them back into the top eight on the ladder after a poor run of results saw them slip outside the finals births, that win will breed confidence.
Verdict - Only one winner here, Port to kick on in the second half and win with something in hand.
Essendon 4.35 v Geelong 1.22
TIP - Margin Geelong 25+ @ 1.71
The Bombers loss against Carlton was probably the end of their season, only two wins now and 12 points behind 8th place means that if Essendon are to progress they would have to conjure up somewhat a magical run to turn things around.
The Bombers after all the pre-season hype lack the depth of squad that is needed to challenge this year and to say the faithful followers of this historic team are un-impressed by the teams performances this season is an understatement.
Geelong made it four from five last week when defeating the Pies in a low scoring affair 66-45 and move up to third on the ladder in the process.
They remain eight points behind the top two but this is a perfect opportunity for them to maintain the pressure in the hope that either the Eagles or the Tigers slip up.
Verdict - The Cats are in form and looking good while the Bombers cannot but a win so the form suggests an easy win for the Cats.
Sydney 1.23 v Fremantle 4.25
TIP - Margin Swans 25+ @ 1.75
Sydney move up to 7th on the ladder after a hard fought 79-71 victory against the Hawks last week, the game looked like it would go to the Hawks but a five goal haul for the Swans in the last term did the trick and gained a valuable four points.
The Swans are certainly missing their star forward Franklin but they are hanging on grimly with some gutsy efforts recently, more is still needed but they are still in with a shout.
Fremantle got back to winning ways last week after two defeats previously when they beat the Saints 89-59, the Dockers always had things under control after a solid start and never looked like losing the contest.
With so many teams four points ahead of the Dockers it's vital that they keep pace but this is no easy task so they will have to be at their very best if they are to have a chance.
Verdict - I expect the Swans to win this one comfortably, they have the better results behind them this season and home advantage will help.
St Kilda 3.35 v Collingwood 1.33
TIP - Margin Collingwood 25+ @ 2.05
No win in five now for the Saints after their 89-59 loss on the road to the Dockers last week pretty much means their season is finished already.
One win and a draw from eight games means they are 14 points adrift on the finals births and I really cannot see them getting the results they need from here on in.
Collingwood with so many injuries to their squad acquitted themselves well last week in defeat when they lost 66-45 against the Cats.
With two losses in the last three weeks they find themselves only 11th on the ladder but only four points separate them and seven other teams, vital game this one for the Pies.
Verdict - Even with the injury list growing Collingwood should have to much in the locker for the Saints, the only question is the margin.
Carlton 4.95 v Melbourne 1.18
TIP - Margin Melbourne 25+ @ 1.61
After seven straight losses the Blues finally gained their first win of the season and if your having a nightmare run if your'e going to surprise someone it may as well be your biggest rivals.
Carlton beat the Bombers 91-78 to at least give something for their fans to cheer about, at least for a short time anyway. Still more needed from the Blues to even gain a little respect this season.
Melbourne brushed the Sins aside last week 146-77 thanks to a superb second half display that made the Suns look like a pub team.
Three wins on the bounce sees the Demons climb to 6th on the ladder and with an expected win here they could find themselves in the top four by the end of the weekend
Verdict - Carlton's celebrations will be short lived as I expect the Demons to dominate from the off and win by a bucket load.
SUNDAY 20TH MAY 2018
Brisbane 2.90 v Hawthorn 1.42- BEST BET
TIP - Margin Hawthorn 25+ @ 2.30
After Carlton's win last week the Lions are now the only team without a win this season after their loss against the Bulldogs last week.
The Lions have been getting better in recent weeks and a win looks just around the corner but they will have to be error free if they are to win this one.
Hawthorn slip to fifth on the ladder after they lost their tie against the Swans last week 79-71 in a real battle at the MCG.
A few decisions went the wrong way for the Hawks at crucial times that altered the course of the game but that's football and they must pick themselves up and move forward.
Verdict - Massive price for the Hawks here, get your house on it, should win and win well.
West Coast 1.96 v Richmond 1.85
TIP - Margin West Coast 25+ @ 4.00
Another win for the Eagles last week and a good win too away against GWS, the final score a gritty 86-61 to the Eagles making it seven in a row now.
The Eagles go from strength to strength and they are looking the real deal this season winning both home and on the road which has been their undoing so many times in recent seasons.
Richmond still head the pack after their 82-72 win against the Kangaroos last week, the game was tight throughout but once again the Tigers found another gear late on in a close contest to get over the line.
With last weeks tough contest they will not relish coming here so soon but if any team can topple the Eagles at the moment it is the Tigers.
Verdict - Home advantage a massive plus for the Eagles, confidence is at an all time high and I expect them to win here and go top of the ladder.
