FRIDAY 17TH MAY 2019

West Coast 1.30 v Melbourne 3.55

TIP - Margin West Coast 40+ @ 3.15

West Coast came through a tricky game last week when they downed St Kilda 88-70 on the road, while the scoreboard was close the Eagles always had the edge throughout and they never looked like losing the game after taking control midway through the third term.

After making it back to back wins last week the Eagles move back into the top eight and they will now be looking to put a decent run together in a bid to challenge the top four, this is a good opportunity to make it three on the spin and keep their momentum going.

Melbourne also made it back to back wins last week by defeating the Suns up at the Metricon Stadium but they were less than impressive in their 61-60 victory, the game looked lost when the Suns took a six point lead with only a minute left to play but a first career goal from 50m from Marty Hore tied the game up and Tom McDonald sealed the win with virtually the last kick of the game hitting the centre post for a behind.

The Demons while having a bad start to the season are only one win outside the top eight so if they can reproduce some of last season efforts from here on in then they may well still turn things around.

Verdict - Should be a straight forward win for the Eagles on home turf, if they take control early then this game should be a walk in the park.

SATURDAY 18TH MAY 2019

Collingwood 1.21 v St Kilda 4.50

TIP Margin Collingwood 25+ @ 1.68

Collingwood maintained their good recent form winning their fifth consecutive game last week against the Blues, the Pies laboured throughout the match but a mammoth effort in the final term saw them turn the game around eventually coming out on top 106-87.

Outplayed for three quarters the Pies notched up 7.1 in the final term and while they came away with the points they will be a little disappointed with their display and will look to play at the level they finished the game off here.

St Kilda after a solid start to the season are now in a little bit of a slump after losing their third game on the spin last weekend, they put up a good effort against the Eagles but eventually went down 88-70 at Marvel Stadium.

With that loss they now slip down to 12th on the ladder but they are level on points with the 8th placed Dockers so a win here could well see them move up a few spots and they will be right back in the mix.

Verdict - Collingwood will be pushing for another win here to keep the pressure on the Cats and if they put in a solid effort they should win this one comfortably.

Brisbane 1.78 v Adelaide 2.05

TIP Margin Adelaide 1-24 @ 3.55

Brisbane drop out of the top four after last weeks loss against the Bulldogs and they will no doubt be thinking it was four points lost after controlling the game early doors, a poor second half performance by the Lions enabled the Doggies to mount a comeback and the home team controlled the game once they got their heads in front.

More needed this week from the Lions if they are to keep pace with the teams above them, home ground advantage could be the deciding factor here but they will have to raise their game with the inform Crows visiting.

Adelaide moved into the top four after an impressive 88-68 victory over local rivals the Power last week making it four wins on the spin in the process, the Crows started brightly and controlled the game from the off and always looked the likely winners.

They will know that this weeks type of game against teams around them will be key in their bid to hold onto a top four birth come the end of the season, only their best will do here but they are a team brimming with confidence.

Verdict - Should be a close game this one and it could go either way but the Crows are decent odds to upset the home team and slight preference is for them to continue their good run.

Geelong 1.21 v Western Bulldogs 4.50

TIP Margin Geelong 25+ @ 1.68

A comfortable win for the Cats last week against North Melbourne sees them maintain top spot on the ladder going into round 9, after a slow start Geelong quickly turned things around and once they got their heads in front they never looked in danger eventually winning the game 104-80.

Gary Ablett and Tom Hawkins starred for the Cats kicking four goals each, if that pair keep up their good form then it will be very hard for any team to beat Geelong throughout the season.

Western Bulldogs after a little wobble made it back to back victories last week when beating the Lions 92-76 and they are once again challenging for a top eight spot on the ladder.

They will come into this full of confidence after coming from behind against the Lions and they will feel if they can pressure the Cats early then they may be able to get something out of the game.

Verdict - I don't think the Cats will run over the Doggies here but they should have too much in the locker for the away team and can take the spoils in possibly a close game.

North Melbourne 1.76 v Sydney 2.07

TIP Margin Sydney 1-24 @ 3.50

North after their decent performance in round 7 against the Blues started well against the Cats last week but soon faded and by the end of the first term they game was all but over as Geelong showed their class on the way to a 104-80 victory.

That loss sees the Kangaroo's with only two wins from the opening eight rounds and they slipped to 17th on the ladder, more needed and quickly from North if they are to have any chance of keeping tabs with the big boys.

Sydney after a terrible run of form finally got back to winning ways last weekend when they beat Essendon at the SCG in a thriller, both teams shared the lead several times before the Swans took control midway through the third term and although they looked vulnerable they managed to keep the lead thereafter coming away with a much needed 77-72 victory.

With only their second win of the season the Swans sit a lowly 16th on the ladder and they will need to find another gear if they are to have any hope of finals footy come the end of the season.

Verdict - Both teams are struggling so it looks almost a coin toss, slight preference is for the Swans after their victory last week over the Bombers.

Essendon 1.41 v Fremantle 2.95

TIP Margin Essendon 1-24 @ 3.10

The Bombers are once again frustrating their fans week in week out with some good performances followed by some lacklustre efforts, last weeks 77-72 loss against the Swans was another example of their in and out performances which we have seen for several season now.

If the Bombers are to be considered serious challengers this season then they will have to eradicate the errors and put in 110% each and every game starting here.

Fremantle suffered their second loss on the spin last weekend when they were soundly beaten by the Tigers 111-86 at home in front of their adoring fans, the Dockers were always on the back foot and a poor first term and while they matched Richmond thereafter the damage was already done.

The Dockers slip down the ladder but remain clinging to a top eight birth, they will need to right the ship soon otherwise they will find themselves in free-fall with some many teams behind them in striking distance.

Verdict - I think this one will be close, the Bombers should win this one at home but as we know with them they do things the hard way most of the time.

SUNDAY 19TH MAY 2019

Port Adelaide 1.20 v Gold Coast 4.60

TIP Margin Port Adelaide 1-39 @ 2.10

Port slip down to 11th on the ladder after suffering their second consecutive loss last weekend at the hands of the Crows, always trailing the home side put up a spirited effort in the final term but the damage was already done and all's they could do it make the score a respectable one eventually losing 88-68.

More needed from the Power if they are to mount a challenge this season, they have shown in patches that when they get it right they can be a force but they must put their best foot forward from here on in.

The Suns after once again starting the season off with a bang have now lost four on the trot after losing last weeks home tie by one point 61-60 against the Demons, Gold Coast looked to be heading for a much needed four points after leading by six with only a minute remaining but they let things slip and somehow managed to lose the tie.

Same old story for the Queensland side, they seem to hit the ground running in the early weeks then fall away tamely, not out of it yet this season with them only one win outside the top eight butt they need to find some form and quickly!

Verdict - Should be a comfortable victory for the Power, the Suns come here out of sorts and although Port are not at their best they should have too much for the visiting team.

Richmond 1.56 v Hawthorn 2.45 - BEST BET

TIP Margin Richmond 25+ @ 2.70

After a shakey start the Tigers look like they are really hitting their stride if last weeks performance is anything to go by, they made it four wins from their last five when downing the Dockers on the road 111-86.

Richmond took control midway through the second term and never looked in danger from that point, they move up to 6th on the ladder and will now be pushing for a top four spot in the coming weeks.

Hawthorn got back to winning ways last week and put in what was probably their best effort of the season so far when beating GWS 71-38 at the MCG, Ricky Henderson starred for the Hawks finishing with 36 disposals.

That win was much needed for the Hawks and it sees them climb up to 9th on the ladder, the same sort of performance is needed once again this week if they are to have any chance on the road.

Verdict - Richmond are hitting their straps now and they may well kick on from here, if they get out in front early they should control the game, home win looks likely!

GWS 1.12 v Carlton 6.25

TIP Margin GWS 40+ @ 1.95 - BEST BET

A poor effort last week by the Giants against the Hawks sees them drop down to 4th on the ladder, always chasing the game last week they looked a shadow of their best and that may well be a wake up call for the young team.

This week sees struggling Carlton visit the Giants Stadium and it should be a perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways and increase their % record at the same time.

Carlton after losing once more sit rooted at the foot of the table on four points after the Swans notched their second win of the season, the Blues went down 106-87 against Collingwood to record their third straight loss and seventh of the season.

The only thing on the Blues mind will be trying to climb off the bottom of the ladder, their season is once again all but over early so pride will be their main focus for the rest of the year.

Verdict - Can't see anything other than a comfortable home victory here, GWS to win and win well!
