In the big game it was Spurs who took the honours downing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge 3-1 after going behind early on, that result pretty much seals Chelsea's fate for this season as they will now struggle to make the top four with so few games left to play. SATURDAY 7TH APRIL 2018
Everton v Liverpool
Home 5.00 - Draw 4.00 - Away 1.62
Under 2.5 Goals @ 2.13
After back to back wins for the Toffies they were set a sterner task last weekend when they took on champions elect Man City and as the form book suggested it was City who came out on top 3-1
Everton will not be worried about that loss coming in here as you can throw the form book out of the window in a derby such as this and they will dig in deep hoping to get one over on their bitter rivals.
Liverpool are now five wins from six after beating Palace 2-1 last week and they are still in the hunt for second place being only two points behind Man Utd.
It wasn't one of the Reds best performances of the season last week but they got the job done and that is an area they have been lacking in the last couple of years, taking points on their off days.
Verdict - Always a bruising encounter this one and I would expect the same this time around, tight game forecast and a draw may well be a safe bet.
SUNDAY 8TH APRIL 2018
Bournemouth v Crystal Palace
Home 2.50 - Draw 3.20 - Away 2.88
Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.87
Bournemouth picked up another much needed point last week when drawing 2-2 away at Watford after Jermain Defoe scored in injury time.
Another step closer to that expected safety mark of 40 points Bournemouth now sit on 37 points and one more win should see them safe from the drop.
Palace after their win against Huddersfield last time out looked a different team as they took on Liverpool at home.
Although they lost the game 2-1 they showed enough to suggest that more performances like that should see them pick the points up they need in their dogfight at the foot of the table.
Verdict - Both teams need the points Palace more so than Bournemouth so it should be a game that produces goals but preference is for the home team by a whisker.
Brighton v Huddersfield
Home 1.80 - Draw 3.30 - Away 4.50
Over 2.5 Goals @ 2.50
Brighton after putting a decent run together are once again in trouble after losing their last two matches against Man Utd and Leicester respectively.
They sit six points ahead of Southampton with seven games remaining so you would think another win may well see them safe and home games will be the main focus for those points.
Huddersfield also come into this off the back of two defeats after losing a six pointer away at Newcastle last week 1-0.
Their plight however is more perilous as they sit on 31 points only three in front of Southampton so they will know that they have to start taking some points from this type of game if they are to avoid the drop.
Verdict - Again this may well be a game that is wide open end to end stuff as both teams push for the win, slight preference is for the home team.
Leicester v Newcastle
Home 1.83 - Draw 3.30 - Away 4.00
Over 2.5 Goals @ 2.01
Leicester mad light work of a poor Brighton team on the road last week as they came away with the three points after a 2-0 victory.
The Foxes sit in eighth place and are in no danger but after their poor start they are also not playing for much more than pride for the remainder of the season.
Newcastle took a valuable three points last week at home against fellow strugglers Huddersfield in another important match for the Magpies.
After seeing off Southampton the week before Rafa will be feeling a little less pressure on the run in as they move up to 12th in the league but by no means are the safe yet.
Verdict - Newcastle will come here with the intent to take all three points and they may well leave themselves vulnerable at the back and Leicester may have a field day.
Stoke v Tottenham
Home 9.50 - Draw 5.00 - Away 1.30
Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.59 - BEST BET
As each game ends it looks more and more likely that Stoke will be playing Championship football next year as once again they were beaten soundly this time away against Arsenal 3-0
Three losses on the spin now for Stoke but on a positive note they are only three points from safety and if they can just bag a few points somewhere will be right back in the mix but time is running out.
Tottenham pretty much secured Champions League football next season when beating Chelsea away last week 3-1 after going a goal behind.
Nine points in front of Chelsea now who are sat behind them in fifth suggests they have done enough in the race for a top four spot.
Verdict - Tottenham are playing some good football and they should be too good for Stoke if they put in the same performance as they did last week.
Watford v Burnley
Home 2.20 - Draw 3.00 - Away 3.30
Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.56
Watford will be ruing the fact that they conceded a 92nd minute goal last week against Bournemouth that denied the Hornets all three points.
Watford are still not safe mathematically but sat on 37 points they should be fine and one more win will see them almost certainly safe.
Burnley's excellent season continued last week as they beat West Brom 2-1 on their travels notching up their third consecutive win in the process.
They sit five points adrift of Arsenal and the last European place so it is not out of the realms of possibility that they may play in Europe next season but they would have to keep winning and hope the Gunners lose a few.
Verdict - Will be a tight game this one as it generally is against the Clarets and so a draw looks a solid bet.
West Brom v Swansea
Home 2.37 - Draw 3.00 - Away 2.88
Over 2.5 Goals @ 2.25
The question will hover over the West Brom dressing room for some time, should they have appointed Pardew in the first place??
The Baggies sacked their short term manager after last weeks loss and they are almost certain to face the drop so the question is now, can they get someone in of pedigree quickly to settle a side for a promotion push next year?
Swansea suffered defeat last week when they took on Man Utd at Old Trafford, the game finished 2-0 and Swansea were pretty much out of it after United scored their second after only twenty minutes.
Another team that are by no means safe as they sit only three points above the drop zone so they will need to find some of that excellent recent form that took them out of the drop zone in the first place.
Verdict - Perfect opportunity for Swansea to take some needed points and on current form should do but beware the team that has just sacked their manager as always!!
Man City v Man Utd
Home 1.72 - Draw 3.60 - Away 4.50
Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.99
Game of the week as the top two face off, City would love to win this and at the same time clinch this years Premier League title which is a distinct possibility.
Another solid performance last week away at Everton winning comfortably 3-1, one more win may do it for City.
Man Utd stay in second after dispatching Swansea at home last week 2-0 and still sit two points clear of Liverpool who are in third.
They will know that the league is going to be won by City but they will not want it to be won here for sure so they will be fighting tooth and nail in this one.
Verdict - Big derby, big game and a lot of these are humdingers or bore-fests. United will play very defensive I feel and try not to lose so a draw at decent odds loos good.
Arsenal v Southampton
Home 1.45 - Draw 4.20 - Away 5.50 - BEST BET
Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.58
Arsenal made it two wins on the spin when they made light work of Stoke at home with the game finishing 3-0 to the Gunners.
After Chelsea's lost Arsenal could still chase them down for fifth spot if they can come home with a wet sale.
Southampton lost again last week and still find themselves in the drop zone but things could have been worse as all the teams above them also lost.
Points is what the Saints need and they are running out of time, expect them to have a real go here against the Gunners with a do or die attitude.
Verdict - Should be goals here and Arsenal look to have too much for Southampton and should take the points.
MONDAY 9TH APRIL 2018
Chelsea v West Ham
Home 1.20 - Draw 5.50 - Away 12.00
Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.59
After losing last weeks crunch game against Tottenham Chelsea pretty much have to win all their remaining fixtures to have a sniff of catching the top four and even that might not be good enough.
Poor season on the whole for a team that won the league last year and questions will have to be asked on how they have fallen so short.
West Ham earned a valuable three points in a massive relegation match last week against Southampton winning the game 3-0 with a solid performance.
Again a team who are still not safe but they are five points ahead of last weeks opponents now who occupy the last relegation place and that may well be enough.
Verdict - Open game on the cards here and I expect Chelsea to bounce back after last weeks disappointment.
