A few surprises last weekend in the EPL, Wolves gained a valuable point at home holding Man City to a 1-1 draw while Spurs sent the rest of the league a message by defeating Man Utd at Old Trafford convincingly, meanwhile at the bottom only West Ham are yet to pick up any points this season after they suffered their third straight defeat. SATURDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER 2018
Leicester v Liverpool
Home 6.40 - Draw 4.40 - Away 1.42
Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.60
Correct Score | Liverpool 2-1 @ 7.00
Leicester made it two wins on the bounce last weekend when they came from behind to beat Southampton 2-1 at St. Mary's and move up to 7th place in the table.
Ryan Bertrand opened the scoring for the Saints in the second half but the Foxes replied quickly thanks to a goal from Demarai Gray, the game looked like it was heading for a draw until Harry Maguire scored deep into stoppage time to seal the win.
Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the season by beating Brighton 1-0 at Anfield and in doing so move top of the table on goal difference., Liverpool were not at their best but a Mo Salah goal midway through the first half was the deciding factor.
Many have touted Liverpool to be a real force this season and they couldn't have asked for a better start, if they are to be real title contenders then these are the games they have to take points from, so far so good though for the Reds.
Verdict - Should be a tight game, Leicester have started the season well and home ground advantage gives them a fighting chance but preference is for the away team to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
SUNDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER 2018
Chelsea v Bournemouth
Home 1.24 - Draw 5.70 - Away 9.00
Under 3.5 Goals @ 1.67
Correct Score | Chelsea 2-0 @ 6.40
Chelsea's perfect start to the season continued last weekend when they beat Newcastle 2-1 at St James' Park and they are now one of only four teams to have won all three of their opening fixtures.
Eden Hazard fired Chelsea in front from the penalty spot on 76 minutes only for Newcastle to level things up shortly after but a late Newcastle own goal secured the points for Chelsea.
Bournemouth dropped their first points of the season last weekend drawing 2-2 at home to Everton in a thrilling encounter which saw both teams have a player sent off.
Bournemouth found themselves 2-0 down with fifteen minutes to play but two goals for the home team in the space of five minutes earned the Cherries a well deserved point.
Verdict - Both teams are full of confidence but I feel Chelsea at home should have too much for Bournemouth but they may well find it hard to break down the Cherries.
West Ham v Wolves
Home 2.46 - Draw 3.20 - Away 2.70
Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.90
Correct Score | Draw 1-1 @ 5.80
West Ham are rooted at the foot of the table after losing once again last weekend away at Arsenal 3-1 although their performance deserved better and they could well have took something from the game had they been better in front of goal.
Not the start the Hammers fans would have wanted, three games and three losses for their team under new manager Manuel Pellegrini, must win game this one.
Wolves pulled off the shock of the round last week holding Man City to a 1-1 draw at Molineux, controversy around the Wolves goal as Willy Boly appeared to handle the ball into the net but the home side will take the point none the less.
Wolves impressed through out the match and thoroughly deserved their point, more performances like that this season and they should have no worries about avoiding the drop.
Verdict - Although West Ham have lost their opening three matches they played well enough last weekend to suggest they can take something from this game, a draw looks the likely outcome.
Everton v Huddersfield
Home 1.47 - Draw 3.85 - Away 6.60 - BEST BET
Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.95
Correct Score | Everton 3-1 @ 11.00
Everton find themselves unbeaten after their opening three matches with a win and two draws to their name after coming away with a 2-2 on the road against Bournemouth last weekend
Everton took a 2-0 lead in a frantic game that saw both teams finish with ten men but the home team rallied late to share the points, Richarlison was sent off for headbutting Adam Smith and will be missed after his impressive start to the season due to his lengthy three match ban
Huddersfield after two heavy defeats in their opening two fixtures secured their first point of the season with a 0-0 draw against Cardiff at The John Smith's Stadium.
Both teams throughout the match lacked the cutting edge and quality to go on and win the game and a draw was a fair result, more needed from the Terriers if they are to avoid a relegation battle this season.
Verdict - Everton have shown enough this season to suggest games of this nature are well within their capabilities especially at Goodison, they should win well here.
Brighton v Fulham
Home 2.20 - Draw 3.20 - Away 3.05
Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.91
Correct Score | Draw 2-2 @ 12.00
Brighton after surprising Man Utd last time out had another daunting task last weekend as they headed to Anfield to take on fee scoring Liverpool, Brighton held their own throughout the match but were undone by a Mo Salah goal midway through the first half.
They would have taken three points from those three tough opening games if you would have asked then before the start of the season, it's games like these at home that they need to be winning if they are to avoid relegation.
Fulham picked up their first points back in the big time last weekend when they easily accounted for Burnley at Craven Cottage 4-2 and move up to 11th in the table in the process.
Aleksandar Mitrovic struck twice for the home side in a first half that saw five goals and Fulham go into the break 3-2 up, Fulham secured the win when Andre Schurrle netted in the 83rd minute.
Verdict - Should be a good game this one with both teams looking for the three points, there should be goals and it may well be one of those high scoring draws that will delight the neutral.
Crystal Palace v Southampton
Home 1.91 - Draw 3.25 - Away 3.85
Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.68
Correct Score | Crystal Palace 2-0 @ 7.60 - BEST BET
Palace after winning their opening fixture have now lost their last two matches after going down 2-1 to Watford last weekend at Vicarage Road, trailing 2-0 Wilfried Zaha got them back in the game with ten minutes to go but Watford held on to take the three points.
Palace will have to win games of this nature if they are to avoid the drop this season especially at home and they will feel it's points dropped if they do not come away with a win.
Mark Hughes's Southampton look set for another dogfight at the bottom of the table after a slow start sees them with only one point from their opening three games after they lost last weeks game at home to Leicester 2-1.
The game was heading for a draw but a late Leicester strike deep into injury time stole all three points for the visitors and condemned the Saints to their second consecutive loss.
Verdict - Palace have the home advantage and in a game of this nature that may well be the deciding factor.
Man City v Newcastle
Home 1.08 - Draw 9.00 - Away 26.00
Under 3.5 Goals @ 1.88
Correct Score | Man City 3-0 @ 5.50
After starting the season with two impressive wins Man City dropped their first points of the season last week when they were held to a 1-1 draw away against Wolves.
City fell behind with a controversial Wolves opener after 57 minutes but they were soon level pegging when Aymeric Laporte scored a header from a set piece with 69 minutes on the clock and City could have won in in stoppage time when an effort from Sergio Aguero's hit the crossbar.
Newcastle have not started the season well taking only one point from their opening three fixtures after losing last week at home to Chelsea 2-1.
Newcastle were outplayed for the majority of the match and some questioned manager Rafa Benitez tactics as not being aggressive enough at home, another tough ask here for the Magpies against City on the road.
Verdict - Man City put six past Huddersfield in their only home game so far this season, I don't think they will repeat that but they should win comfortably.
Cardiff v Arsenal
Home 5.20 - Draw 3.90 - Away 1.56
Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.76
Correct Score | Arsenal 3-0 @ 10.00
Cardiff secured their first away point of the season last weekend coming away from The John Smith's Stadium with a 0-0 draw against rivals Huddersfield, Neil Warnock's men would however be disappointed they didn't take all three points after playing against ten men for the last half hour of the game.
Cardiff after losing their opening fixture have bounced back with two draws and although they are still searching for their first win of the season they will feel that they have a team that can compete at this level.
Unai Emery secured his first league win as Arsenal manager last weekend when the Gunners defeated West Ham 3-1 at the Emirates but the performance in reality was far from perfect and they were lucky to come away with three points.
Arnautovic opened the scoring for the Hammers after 25 minutes but Nacho Monreal equalised for Arsenal five minutes later and it remained 1-1 until Diop put Arsenal in front midway through the second half, the game was made safe when Danny Wellbeck scored deep into injury time.
Verdict - Arsenal's side is full of quality and they should have too much in the locker for the likes of Cardiff, if they play well they win.
MONDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER 2018
Burnley v Man Utd
Home 5.70 - Draw 3.55 - Away 1.59
Over 2.5 Goals @ 2.12 - BEST BET
Correct Score | Man Utd 3-1 @ 13.00
After last seasons heroics Burnley have started the season off poorly picking up only one point from their opening three games after suffering their second defeat in succession last weekend losing 4-2 against Fulham.
Another midweek Europa League fixture will not help their cause here and it may well be a blessing in disguise if they are knocked out of Europe so they can concentrate on the league, they just do not have the squad to play extra games.
Man Utd after losing to Brighton took on Spurs at Old Trafford last week and things ended up going from bad to worse for Jose Mourinho's men suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat against their would be title rivals.
United have also lost two of their opening three Premier League games for the first time since 1992 and already their squad and manager are coming under serious pressure to turn things around.
Verdict - Man Utd should have too much quality for Burnley who are struggling but they will need to cut out those defensive errors we have seen in the past two games.
Watford v Tottenham
Home 4.90 - Draw 3.95 - Away 1.58
Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.69
Correct Score | Tottenham 2-1 @ 6.80
After victories over Burnley and Brighton in their opening two games Watford hosted Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road last weekend and they maintained their 100% record in tact with a 2-1 win.
Watford have had a dream start to the season winning all three of their fixtures so far and they will be full of confidence going into this game even though they are up against one of the more likely title contenders.
Tottenham also maintained their perfect start to the season last week by beating Man Utd 3-0 at Old Trafford thanks to three second half goals, one from Harry Kane and a brace from Lucas Moura.
Spurs rode their luck in the first half but dominated the second and ran out deserved winners, they will feel that it was points gained in their bid to become EPL champions but they still have to win games like these if they are to feature come May.
Verdict - Both teams playing well but Spurs have the quality and I expect them to win this one.
