Bahrain saw some edge of your seat action but probably for all the wrong reasons as Ferrari messed things up in the pit lane and both Red Bulls failed to finish the race. The luckless Hamilton weaved through to third after starting 9th on the grid and a superb drive from Pierre Gasly were the highlights. Continue reading for our F1 Chinese GP 2018 Preview and Tips.

Bahrain GP 2018 Recap

With Lewis Hamilton having a five place grid penalty before qualifying due to an unscheduled gear box change it was always going to be tough for the Mercedes driver to reel in the Ferrari's and when Lewis could only qualify in 4th it meant ninth on the grid and damage limitation.

Sebastian Vettel took the race in Bahrain making it two from two for the season with Bottas in second and the luckless Hamilton in third after an enterprising drive after starting ninth on the grid but it was the in race action of some of the others that made this race.

Once again we saw pit lane calamity, this time it was Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen who put on the clown show.

Raikkonen’s car was dropped from the jack before the left-rear tyre had been changed and as the Finn exited, he knocked into a mechanic before stopping a few metres further on and retiring.

Raikkonen, who was running third, threw his steering wheel into the cockpit in frustration before walking back into the garage. The mechanic was taken to hospital, where he had surgery after suffering a double leg fracture.

Mean while at Red Bull it was a weekend to forget as Daniel Ricciardo had to retire due to engine failure while running in fourth place and Max Verstappen after a collision with Hamilton picked up a puncture and ultimately retired from the race due to the incident.

The big winners in Bahrain were Toro Rosso and Honda as Pierre Gasly managed to finish in 4th place which is a superb result for all concerned especially Honda who were dropped by Mclaren due to poor performance.

Chinese GP 2018 Preview

Although Vettel has gotten off to the perfect start he is the only driver so far not to have encountered any gremlins this season so it is a bit hard to weigh up the results.

Lewis Hamilton has an exceptional record in the Chinese GP winning three times for current team Mercedes 2014, 2015 and 2017 while also picking up two wins for former team Mclaren.

Ferrari have not won at this circuit since 2013 so you would expect this weekend to be dominated by the Silver Arrows team of Hamilton and Bottos.

The best action this weekend will probably come between Renault, Toro Rosso, Mclaren and Haas as all four teams look like they are capable of sneaking into the top six.

Brilliant result in Bahrain finishing 4th, the new Toro Rosso airo-pack may well put him in the mix again.

What went wrong with Mclaren in qualifying?? Hopefully they have put things right here and a top ten should be there for the taking
