In the big Sydney derby it was the Roosters who managed to come out on top and in doing so climb above the Rabbitohs and claim top spot on the ladder with only three games in the regular season to go, meanwhile Wests Tigers win on the road against the Raiders sees them move to within only two points of the top eight after the Broncos lost their game against the Cowboys. Broncos 2.35 v Rabbitohs 1.57

TIP - Over 42.5 Points @ 1.88

TIP - Broncos 1-12 @ 3.50 - BEST BET

The Broncos suffered yet another defeat last week going down 34-30 in a real ding dong affair up at the 1300SMILES Stadium against the Cowboys, a late Cowboys try in the dying minutes was the difference condemning Brisbane to back to back losses.

The Broncos are clinging onto a finals birth but with the Wests Tigers only two points behind them they can ill afford another loss here, tough game and a tough ask for the Broncos but in front of their home support they can win this but they will need to be at their best.

South Sydney slip back down to second on the ladder after they lost their game against local rivals the Roosters last week 18-14, two tries apiece it was down to the kicking and it was the Roosters with three penalties and two conversions who won that battle.

Two losses in their last five outings for the Rabbitohs is probably not the best form to be carrying into the final few games of the season but they can put things right by winning their last three games, although this will be a tough ask on the road.

Verdict - Should be a close run contest with both teams fighting for something, the Broncos really do need a win here so preference is for the home team but it can go either way.

Sea Eagles 1.48 v Titans 2.60

TIP - Over 44.5 Points @ 1.88

TIP - Sea Eagles 13+ @ 2.75

The Sea Eagles made it back to back wins last week when beating the Bulldogs 18-6 at the McGrath Foundation Stadium, trailing 6-2 at half time two quick Tom Trbojevic tries in the second half put them in control of the game and they added another try thanks to Addin Fonua-Blake in the 66th minute to put the game to bed.

With that win they move up a couple of places on the ladder to 12th, they can still finish inside the top ten but that will be little consolation to them missing finals football this season.

Gold Coast threw the game away last week against the Panthers after crumbling in the last ten minutes giving up a ten point lead eventually going down 17-16 to a Nathan Cleary drop goal in extra time.

Four losses from their last five games sees the Titans slip down to 13th on the ladder and they are in real danger of finishing bottom with only two points separating them and the Cowboys at the foot of the table.

Verdict - With the Titans running cold this should be a home win for the Sea Eagles to stretch their winning streak to three games.

Storm 1.22 v Eels 4.25

TIP - Under 42.5 Points @ 1.88

TIP - Storm 13+ @ 2.40

After round 21's loss to the Rabbitohs on the road the Storm took on the Sharks at home last week in a bid to get back to winning ways but it was the Cronulla outfit that came away with the points with a 17-14 victory.

That loss sees the Storm slip to third on the ladder level on points with the Panthers and with three teams only another two points adrift they are in real danger of dropping out of the top four if they cannot get back to winning ways.

An emphatic 40-4 win for the Eels last week against the Dragons sees them climb off the bottom of the ladder for the first time since round 2.

Three wins from their last five games has given the Eels supporters something to shout about in recent weeks but it has been a tough season for the team from Parramatta and next year cannot come quick enough for them.

Verdict - Must win game for the Storm but they come up against a rejuvenated Eels outfit who are playing well, I expect the Storm to bounce back and put down a marker after losing their last couple.

Saturday 18th August 2018

Panthers 1.28 v Knights 3.65

TIP - Over 44.5 Points @ 1.88

TIP - Panthers 1-12 @ 3.00

The Panthers staged a smash and grab last week against the Titans after trailing for the majority of the second half, going into the last ten minutes the Titans held a 16-6 lead but conceded two tries to the Panthers taking the game into extra time.

Nathan Cleary kicked the winning field goal for the Panthers in the 83rd minute to claim an unlikely 17-16 victory and take the two points and in doing so they move back into the top four with the Dragons losing.

Newcastle have now lost three on the spin after losing to the Warriors last week, the game started well for the Knights with Ken Sio scoring an 11th minute try but the Warriors hit back with three tries of their own while keeping the Knights scoreless for the rest of the game.

The Knights stay in 11th on the ladder with 18 points with a best possible finish of 10th, not the end to the season Newcastle would have hoped for.

Verdict - Penrith have won eight and lost only three at home this season and I expect them to make that nine here, although the game may well be a tight affair on the scoreboard.

Wests Tigers 1.80 v Dragons 2.00

TIP - Under 40 Points @ 1.88

TIP - Wests Tigers 13+ @ 4.00

Still hope yet for the Wests Tigers after they beat the Raiders on the road last week 22-20, four first half tries put them in control of the game and a 43rd minute penalty by Esan Marsters ended up being the deciding factor as the Raiders mounted a fightback in the second half but fell just short.

That's four wins from their last five games giving them a real chance of finishing in the top eight, a win here could well see them draw level with the 8th placed Broncos who take on the Rabbitohs in a tough fixture.

The Dragons on the other hand come into this in free fall mode after losing four of their last five games after going down to the Eels on the road last week 40-4 in possibly their worst performance of the season.

With that loss the Dragons slip to 5th on the ladder with only two points separating themselves from the Wests Tigers who sit in 9th, a change of results is needed before they slip even further.

Verdict - This could go either way but with one team in form and one team on a losing run you would be ill advised to go against the Wests Tigers on home soil.

Sharks 1.37 v Cowboys 3.10

TIP - Under 40.5 Points @ 1.88 - BEST BET

TIP - Cowboys 1-12 @ 4.7

A excellent defensive display from the Sharks last week in their 17-14 victory on the road against the Storm keeps them 6th on the ladder but they are now only two points adrift of 3rd place.

A strong finish to the season could well see Cronulla finish in the top four, this is a perfect opportunity to make it back to back wins and keep the pressure on the teams above them.

A poor season for the Cowboys got just a little better last week after defeating their Qld rivals the Broncos 34-30 up at the 1300SMILES Stadium.

Leading 18-16 at half time the Cowboys conceded two quick tries before staging a comeback and a 76th minute converted Coen Hess try sealed the win for the Cowboys.

Verdict - I am going to take a punt that the Cowboys can make it back to back wins after last weeks confidence boosting victory, they will not want to finish with the wooden spoon after slipping down to 16th on the ladder.

Sunday 19th August 2018

Bulldogs 2.45 v Warriors 1.55

TIP - Under 40.5 Points @ 1.88

TIP - Bulldogs 1-12 @ 3.70

The Bulldogs have now lost nine of their eleven games on the road this season after losing last week 18-6 against the Sea Eagles after leading 6-2 at half time.

Such a disappointing season for the Bulldogs they will want to finish their campaign off strongly and a win here will give them a boost before going into their last two games.

After beating the Dragons in round 21 the Warriors made it back to back wins last week when beating the Knights convincingly 20-4 at the Mt Smart Stadium.

That win sees them move up a place too 7th on the ladder and they will feel two more wins would see them finish in the top eight and playing finals football this year.

Verdict - The Bulldogs have been better at home than on the road this year and I will take them to surprise the Warriors here after lasts weeks poor effort against the Sea Eagles on the road.

Raiders 2.75 v Roosters 1.45 - BEST BET

TIP - Under 42.5 Points @ 1.88

TIP - Roosters 13+ @ 2.65

Another loss for the Raiders last week their 13th of the season puts pay to any hopes of finals football this year, the game against Wests Tigers finished 22-20 after a superb first half display from the away team.

So many close games this season have been lost by the Raiders, if only for a bit of luck they could have well been in the mix a few places higher up than they are but not too be this year.

Last week the Roosters took on the Rabbitohs in a top of the ladder clash with 1st playing third and it was the Roosters who took the points in a hardly fought contest that finished 18-14.

That win and the Storm's loss at home to the Sharks sees the Roosters move up two places to top spot, they will want to win their last three games of the season to maintain their position so a win here is a must.

Verdict - The Roosters will be full of confidence after last weeks victory and I would expect them to be too good for the Raiders here.
