NRL Tips For This Weekend Round 4 2018

Cowboys 1.30 v Panthers 3.55 - BEST BET

TIP - Over 38.5 @ 1.9

The Cowboys lost their second game of a tough opening three rounds this season going down 30-14 against the Storm away. North Qld held on to the Storm's coat tails until the last ten minutes in which the conceded two tries.

With home advantage this week look for the Cowboys to bounce straight back here, they have played well in every game this year so look for another solid effort as always in front of their home crowd.

The Panthers suffered their first defeat of the season last week when they were narrowly beaten 20-18 by the Bulldogs. Penrith got off to a sluggish start and conceded three quick tries inside the first 20 minutes and were always on the back foot thereafter.

To their credit though the Panthers kept plugging away and a try in the 72nd minute by Josh Mansour was duly converted by James Maloney to set up a tense finish but the Bulldogs held on for the win.

Verdict - The Cowboys have had a tough run of games and this one is a little easier on paper and they are always dominant at home so expect a good showing and a home win.

Rabbitohs 1.90 v Bulldogs 1.90

TIP Under 44.5 @ 1.9

Possibly the shock of the round last week when the Rabbitohs beat Manly 34-6 down to the fact that The Bunnies had lost their first two and Manly came into the game off the back of walloping the Eels 54-0 the week before.

South Sydney got off to the perfect start with Robert Jennings scoring a try inside the first minute and with two more tries in side the first half hour they were pretty much all but home.

Canterbury got their season back on track in round three beating the Panthers after opening the season with two losses.

Four first half tries saw them move out to a 20-12 half time advantage and although the conceded a try with eight minutes to go they held on for a well deserved win.

Verdict - The Bulldogs had a tough opening two matches against the Roosters and the Storm losing both but last weeks win will lift their confidence and they should have enough in the locker to take the points here, they are just more consistent than the Bunnies.

Sharks 2.32 v Storm 1.61

TIP - Under 38.0 @ 1.9

Cronulla were made to work hard for their 14-4 victory against the Eels last week, in a tough game both teams could only manage one try apiece so it was the penalty count that got the Sharks over the line due to their consistent pressure and a few mistakes by the Eels defence.

The Sharks will be more upbeat now after winning their first game of the season after two losses against the Dragons and the Cowboys but things don't get any easier this week with the Storm coming to play.

Melbourne after their surprise loss in round 2 at home to the Tigers bounced back in fine fashion in round 3 beating the Cowboys 30-14. With the game locked at 18-14 for some time two tries in the last ten minutes by Will Chambers and Nelson Asofa-Solomona made the game safe.

The Storm would have expected a tough game last week and that is exactly what they got and they will need to freshen up and get back down to business here and be ready for another big physical battle.

Verdict - Both teams are very capable of winning this but slight preference is for the Storm in a tight game but it would not surprise in the Sharks turn them over.

Roosters 1.34 v Warriors 3.30

TIP - Under 42.5 @ 1.9

After their opening round loss against the Tigers the Rooster's have now gone back to back winning their next two games convincingly, last weeks effort against the Knights showed once again that they will be in the mix this season.

In a game that finished 38-8 the Roosters ran in seven tries and looked good in doing so, if they keep playing at the level they have shown in the last two rounds then they will be hard to contain whoever they play.

New Zealand made it three from three for the first time in their history and will be full of confidence and ready to take on all comers.

In an edgy game against the Raiders the Warriors were behind for the most part but a late 76th minute try followed by two field goals from Shaun Johnson got them over the line but only just.

Verdict - Although the Roosters should win on home turf they are up against an unbeaten team who's attacking style always gives them a chance and at those odds I just think it is good value.

Eagles 1.50 v Raiders 2.60

TIP Under 45.5 @ 1.9

After their impressive win against the Eels in round 2 Manly came crashing back down to earth last week as they were soundly beaten 34-6 by a rampant Rabbitohs.

The Sea Eagles have already shown that they can score points when their playing well but a lack of consistency may well be their undoing this season if they cannot sort it out quickly.

Canberra could have won all three game this season but find themselves without a point after three games after once again narrowly losing out in round 3 to the Warriors 20-19.

A late try and two drop goals in the dying minutes were their undoing this time, we know they can play and score points but their defence has as many holes in it as one of granny's old socks.

Verdict - Fourth time lucky I am hoping for the Raiders who have shown enough in attack to suggest that they can win this on the road.

Dragons 1.30 v Knights 3.20

TIP - Over 43.5 @ 1.9

Th Dragon's blew away the Titan's 54-8 in round three keeping them on top of the ladder and looking like a team to follow this season.

St George put on a masterclass performance running in nine tries on their way to an eye opening victory that will have made the rest of the NRL teams sit up and take note.

Newcastle went into round 3 unbeaten after beating Manly and the Raiders in their opening two fixtures but they were no match for the Rooster eventually succumbing to an 38-8 loss.

The Knights will still be pleased in how they have performed so far in 2018 due to their poor last few years but they will not want to start getting the losing feeling all too often as they then might slip back into their previous easy beats tag.

Verdict - The Dragon's have been the best team this season and they have dominated all three games they have played and this one should be no exception, home win for me.

Broncos 1.23 v Titans 4.20

TIP Under 45.5 @ 1.9

The Broncos made it back to back victories in round 3 after succumbing to the Dragons in round 1 with a hard fought 9-7 extra time victory against the Tigers.

Jamayne Isaako 87th minute penalty ensured the Broncos took the points against the unbeaten Tigers and while the Broncos didn't play all too well they will be more than happy with the result.

After their opening round win the Titans have now lost two on the bounce and they were soundly beaten in round 3 54-8 against the Dragons conceding nine tries in the process.

Another tough assignment here will not help their cause and they will have to be much improved if they are to challenge the Broncos in this local derby.

Verdict - Although it is a derby and strange things can happen between rival clubs there is only one winner on paper here for me and it is the Broncos.

Tigers 1.30 v Eels 3.20

TIP - Under 38.0 @ 1.9 - BEST BET

Wests after two close wins against decent opposition were beaten in round 3 in another nail biting encounter against the Broncos with the final score ending 9-7 after the Broncos kicked a penalty in extra time.

Although the Tigers lost that game they have shown that they have a resilience about them this season and they are hard to break down and if they can keep up this intensity will be a outside chance for honour's this season.

Parramatta find themselves propping up the ladder after three consecutive defeats and will need to get a move on if they are to achieve anything this season.

The probably put in their best performance of the season last week going down 14-4 against the Sharks but they still need to improve as they are really struggling to create chances with ball in hand.

Verdict - The only thing in the Eels favour is the fact that the Tigers are not scoring too freely but the home side have shown enough this year to suggest that they will put a few more points on the board in this one.
