THURSDAY 12TH APRIL 2018
Roosters 1.35 v Rabbitohs 3.20
TIP - Over 36.5 Points @ 1.90 - BEST BET
TIP - Roosters 13+ @ - 2.40
After a disappointing result in round 4 the Roosters got back to winning ways in round 5 defeating the Sharks 28-10 on the road. Ryan Matterson got the Sharks off to a perfect start scoring the first try of the match in the 20th minute and two more tries before half time always had the Roosters in a solid position.
The Roosters now sit in fifth place on the ladder after winning three of their opening five games and they will be hoping that they can kick on after a mediocre start to 2018.
South Sydney put up a valiant effort in round 5 but could not take anything from the game against the unbeaten Dragons eventually losing the match 16-12.
For the second week running the Rabbitohs scored a couple of late tries to put pressure on the opposition but this time they could not find another try to take anything from the game.
Verdict - You never know what a derby will throw up but the Roosters come into this off the back of a decent result and they should have too much for their rivals.
FRIDAY 13TH APRIL 2018
Storm 1.28 v Knights 3.70
TIP - Over 38.5 Points @ 1.90
TIP - Storm 13+ @ 2.20
After losing in round 4 you would have expected the Storm to come out fighting in round 5 and that they did but they could not shake off a dogged Tigers outfit eventually losing a tight game 11-10.
Not the start the Storm would have expected to 2018 after dominating last season and they will need to re-asses things in the coming weeks and try to find what has changed this year.
Newcastle continues their solid start to the season in round 5 defeating the Broncos 15-10 in a low scoring affair. The Knights were first to strike in the 30th minute as Lachlan Fitzgibbon skipped through to score a try which was duly converted and a Mitchell Pearce field goal just before half time gave the Knights a bit of protection.
A try for each team early in the second half kept the game tight with turning point being the missed conversion by the Broncos and a converted penalty goal in the 64th minute by Kalyn Ponga for the Knights which meant the last Broncos try was nothing more than consolation for the away team.
Verdict - The Storm have been out of sorts this season and a good performance may well be right around the corner and they should have too much for the Knights.
Dragons 1.52 v Sharks 2.55
TIP - Under 36.5 Points @ 1.90
TIP - Dragons 1-12 @ 2.88
Five from five now for the Dragons after winning their round five encounter against the Bunnies 16-12, the Dragons always had the game under control but two late tries by the Rabbitohs had the Dragons worried in the last five minutes but they held on for victory.
With most teams around them faltering the Dragons will want to put as much distance as possible between them and the chasing pack before the usual suspects get their act together.
Cronulla after putting in their best effort of the season in round 4 when defeating the Storm could not continue in the same vein and suffered their third loss of the season going down to the Roosters at home 28-10.
The Sharks are struggling to score points this season with only 68 on the board after five games and they will need to rectify this if they are to mount a challenge this season.
Verdict - Has to be the Dragons here once again after their impressive start against a Sharks team that are struggling.
SATURDAY 14TH APRIL 2018
Warriors 1.52 v Broncos 2.55 - BEST BET
TIP - Over 35.5 Points @ 1.90
TIP - Warriors 13+ @ 3.10
The Warriors maintained their unbeaten their perfect start to the season last week downing the Cowboys at home 22-12 to keep pace with the Dragons.
Ken Maumalo got the Warriors off to the perfect start scoring a try in side the first five minutes and two more tries before half time by David Fusitu'a put the Warrior's in a commanding position and although the Cowboys scored a try before half time the Warrior's always looked like winning.
The Broncos after losing their fourth round match against the Titans went to Newcastle in round 5 and they would have expected to get back to winning ways but the Knights are a better team this season than in previous years and the Broncos suffered their third loss of the season.
The game was a low scoring affair finishing 15-10 but the Knights always had control of the game after scoring the first two tries.
Verdict - The Warriors are at home and in this form you cannot back against them, should be six from six unless the Broncos can find their best game.
Cowboys 1.38 v Bulldogs 3.05
TIP - Under 37.5 Points @ 1.90
TIP - Cowboys 1-12 @ 2.80 - BEST BET
After losing to the Panthers at home in round 4 the Cowboys had a daunting task in front of them in round 5 as they took on the unbeaten Warriors away.
The Cowboys got off to a sluggish start and allowed the Warriors three quick tries and that sealed their fate and condemned them to their fourth straight loss.
The Bulldogs also come into this with only one win in 2018 after suffering another defeat in round 5 this time at the hands of the Raiders 26-10.
Two Raiders tries inside the first 15 minutes meant the Bulldogs had to chase the game and the team could not produce the goods once again, more needed from the Bulldogs and quickly otherwise they will find themselves out of the picture.
Verdict - Both of these teams are struggling for form so I will stick with the home team to take the spoils but the Bulldogs are decent odds for a game of this nature.
Raiders 1.62 v Eels 2.31
TIP - Over 38.5 Points @ 1.90
TIP - Raiders 13+ @ 3.30
Canberra finally got their first win of the season last week after being on the wrong side of three narrow losses previously, the Raiders started well against the Bulldogs and scored two quick tries which probably settled their nerves a little as they went on to win the game 26-10.
Another perfect opportunity here for the Raiders with the Eels coming to town and they will expect to take another two points against a team that has yet to win this year.
Parramatta have now lost their opening five games after going down to the Panthers at home in round 5 12-6 and unless they can change things quickly their season will be over pretty quickly.
This is a winnable game for the Eels if they put their best foot forward and they have shown in the last two weeks that they are improving but they still need more.
Verdict - Last weeks win might just do the trick for the Raiders and they will come into this confident of another victory.
SUNDAY 15TH APRIL 2018
Panthers 1.40 v Titans 2.95
TIP - Under 42.5 Points @ 1.90
TIP - Panthers 1-12 @ 3.10
The Panthers sit fifth on the ladder after notching up their fourth win of the season in round 5 against the Eels on the road 12-6.
Penrith will know that games like these against lesser opposition will probably be the deciding factor in whether they make the top four this season rather than the top eight so they need to maintain their solid start to the season with another win.
Gold Coast after turning over the Broncos in round 4 entertained the Eagles at home in round 5 at the Marley Brown Oval and they continued their good for beating the Eagles 32-20.
The game was in the balance with ten minutes to go but two late tries by the Titans ensured they notched up their third win of the season.
Verdict - Should be a good game this one with both teams playing well but preference is for the home team who are looking like the real deal this year.
Eagles 1.85 v Tigers 1.95
TIP - Under 36.5 Points @ 1.90
TIP - Eagles 1-12 @ 3.00
The Eagles lost on the road for the third time this year in round 5 losing to the Titans 32-20, they will have to compete better on the road if they are to challenge the top eight this year.
Their home form has been good with two wins from as many games so they will feel that they can notch up their third win of the season here.
The Tigers once again put up another top draw defensive effort last week when the Storm came to town and notched up their fourth win of the season with a 11-10 victory.
The Tigers have proved this year that they can compete with anyone and are tough to break down but they need to look to score more points.
Verdict - I am going to take the Eagles in an open match due to them being unbeaten at home this season but the Tigers will be right there waiting to pounce if they are not up to it.
