US Open 2018 Preview
Rafael Nadal (4.00) heads into the tournament as defending champion but he will find things a little tougher than last year with all the big players back on the scene although there is a slight question mark over the fitness of Andy Murray especially over the longer format.
Nadal has won the US Open title three times from his last six attempts (2010, 2013, 2017), he also reached the final in 2011 making it his second best grand slam event on career form.
He comes into this years tournament in fine form winning the Rogers Cup a few weeks ago on the hard court and will no doubt he hard to beat here.
Novak Djokovic (3.25) after many months below par through injury is finally back to somewhere near his best, he won Wimbledon for the fourth time just a few months ago and won the Western and Southern Open last weekend on the hard court beating Roger Feder in the final.
A Seven times finalist here winning twice (2011, 2015) suggests he will be right in the mix once again on current form.
Roger Federer (6.00) has won this event five times (2004-2008) and been a losing finalist twice (2009, 2015) so he certainly has what it takes to win here and should be a threat if playing anywhere near his best over the coming weeks.
Decent form coming into this losing in the final last weekend to Djokovic at the Western and Southern Open so he should have a live chance this year.
Alex Zverez (12.00) sits top four in the world on current rankings but his grand slam form doesn't read all too well, he has failed to get past the second round here in three attempts so unless he drastically changes the trend he may well be one to avoid this week.
He did win the Citi Open on hard in May but he lost his opening tie last weekend at the Western and Southern Open after a bye in round 1 to Robin Haase and lost in the quarter final against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Rogers Cup previously, both losses on hard suggesting it's not his best surface.
Kevin Anderson (34.00) not only reached the final of Wimbledon this year he was also runner-up in this event last year, big server and always dangerous on his day Kevin is now ranked 5th in the world after some decent results recently.

Simona Halep (7.50) finally broke her grand slam voodoo winning the French Open this year and she has gone well here in the past reaching the semi-finals back in 2015.
Good form coming into this with a win in Montreal a few weeks ago and she was a losing finalist in Cincinnati last time out both on hard courts.
Serena Williams (7.00) is a six time winner here (1999, 2002, 2008, 2012-14) and she has reached the semi-finals on her last two attempts, she comes into this as favourite and rightly so with her record but she has not been at her best this season.
After losing this years Wimbledon final she has won only one match in her next two tournaments (both on hard) so it may pay to look elsewhere.
Angelique Kerber (8.00) won her third grand slam this year winning Wimbledon and she has decent form in all three of this years slams getting to the semi-final at the Australian Open and the quarter-final at the French.
Like Williams not the best form coming into this off the back of her last two tournaments but she has the most consistent slam record this year and should go well.
Kiki Bertens (26.00) is really on the up and is now ranked 13th in the world after some solid efforts over the last twelve months.
Two titles this year including last week in Cincinnati on hard suggests she will be right in the mix here, will break through in a slam soon enough you would think.
